Happy Holidays

I hope your holiday was wonderful, as mine was. DH and I went to his dad's Christmas Eve and then to my mom's to spend Christmas Day with her and my brother.
I ate too much, received too many gifts and laughed constantly ! (Sofa King----sorry, inside joke)
Despite DH's layoff, we enjoyed Christmas. Ü

Next holiday, New Year's Eve. We will probably just enjoy it in the comfort of our home, quietly. Probably we will hit the hay well before midnight. Why is it so much more important when you are younger to celebrate the changing year? I'm not THAT old, but it just doesn't seem as appealing to go out in a smoke filled, crowded venue and drink too many drinks and stay up way too late only to wake up mid-afternoon the next day feeling like you've been hit by a Mack truck........ Not my kind of celebration. Sorry.

Call me a wet blanket.....call me a Negative Nancy......whatever.

Maybe I can think of some "goals" for 2009.

1. Think positively, speak positively, live positively
2. see #1

(I thought 2 goals looked better than just one anyway.)

I finally have begun reading the Twilight series......OMG, I'm halfway finished with the first book and I just started last night !
I don't know what it is about that book, but it's hard to put down---it MAKES you want to read it. It's hard to explain. Read it if you want to know.

Adios 2008-----glad you're through with us.
On to 2009-----please be kind to us !!!

It's been a long, long road....

I'm sorry I have been neglecting you for so long. There have been many things going on since I last posted. I will try not to bore you with all the deets.
Hubby has been laid off from work as of today. SO, we will be penny pinching until he gets called back OR he gets something new. Oh Joy. Great timing too! =/

For some fun I will be posting my 24 days of Christmas gifts I have been sent. I was in a swap and I sent 24-ish things to my swap partner and I got sent a box of goodies to unwrap every day until Christmas!
Here is today's gift, a cute little "congratulations" stamp from Studio G.
OK, well it looks like since I had my computer worked on, the pictures I just took aren't working.....I'll have to get DH to see what's going on.....

Card for Mom.....Because, Because

Today I came across this sentiment and thought of my mom. We have been kidding with her for awhile about her getting stuck on the word "because". She says it a couple of times when she's explaining things. She draws out the 'ause' so it sounds like this: be-cauuuuuuse, be-cauuuuuse......

I'm sure I will get picked on as time goes on.....thank goodness she's a good sport!

My Stamp Room, Part 2

DH and I have been working on my stamp room this weekend. Friday we hung the cabinets, given to us by DH's mom (THANKS NANCY !!!). She remodeled their store and gave us the used cabinets--which look almost like our kitchen cabinets!
I love how they look on my Old Olive walls!
Saturday I loaded the room (with most of my stuff) and today I'm still working on organizing it. It's hard to decide where you want everything. I tried to think of the things I use alot and put them close at hand. I still want to hang my ink pads and punches so they're not taking up space on the counter. I want to reorganize my papers to vertical storage but I haven't found the right containers yet. So for now, the 12X12's are still in pizza boxes and the 8 1/2X11's are in paper trays. I want to spray paint my ink pad holder (wooden casette tape holder) and my ribbon and other jar lids white so they all match my other containers. I also want to velcro a white curtain to my lower corner cabinet. It had a wonky door so we just took it off. The toe kicks will be covered (the cabinets had slight water damage due to an overflowing dishwasher!). HMMM....what else.....Oh, I'm going to hang a shelf so my ribbon jars will be off of the counter and lookin' pretty all lined up. I will also reorganize my scrap paper storage so their in hanging folders in my plastic drawer/organizer thingy.
How do you organize your individual stamps? I have my SU stamps in the plastic cases in a cabinet, but I don't know how I want to do the individuals......
Thanks for looking and if you have any ideas for me, please let me know !

Back from Biloxi

We had a fun time in Biloxi, Mississippi the past 5 days. Here's a brief rundown:

Friday- Arrived in Biloxi around 5:30pm. Checked in hotel and dropped off luggage. Drove to the beach to look at the scenery. Sat on the white sand and watched the sun go down.

Saturday- Spent some $$ at the Hard Rock Casino. Got a massage at the Rock Spa. Ate shrimp creole at Cafe New Orleans. OMG, can you say YUM-ALICIOUS????

Sunday- Beach day. Waaaaaaay too hot ! Heat index was 102. (We found that out later) No wonder it was so blankin' HOT! Won $$ at Island View and The Palace casino's.
Monday- Shopping day. Ate fresh fried shrimp at Aunt Jennie's. WOW, I never knew how much better FRESH shrimp tasted!! MMMMMMMMMMM

Tuesday- Went sailing on the Biloxi Schooner. Beautiful ship and beautiful views. Painted at a "Canvas and Cocktails" class. FUN DAY !

Wednesday- Made the 11 1/2 hour, 700 mile trip back to Indiana.

What I've Been Up To

I haven't been online for awhile because I am in the middle of redoing my stamp room !!! I did alot of "research" on colors--OK, OK, I just looked at all the postings of stamp rooms on SCS and Two Peas. Even though my favorite color is PINK, I didn't think I'd want pink walls. I decided that the rooms that had green colored walls were the ones I thought looked cozy. The color I chose is a cross between Old Olive and Certainly Celery. It's called "Sea Green" by Kilz (at Walmart). The pics show before, during (while painting the primer white color) and the first coat of the finished product.
Next step is installing the cabinets we got from DH's mom. Long story, the cabinets are used but are in good enough shape to use in my stamp room.

I am trying to decide on a name to call my room. I don't do scrapbooking, just rubber stamping/papercrafting. We thought about just calling it the "Green Room" but that's just too boring, I think. I don't know why I want to name my special room, but I do. I'm a bit odd, I know! Ü
Any cool ideas?????

Lori

Color Challenge #11 !!

I decided to make two cards since they were so small. Both are 3 1/2" X 3 1/2" So Saffron cards. On the square one I punched 3 squares, Versamarked the stars and swirls on all 3 squares and mounted them on white with pop dots to lift them up off the paper. I used black ink stamped off once and then stamped "hello". (I do not have anything gray so this was my feeble attempt.)

Cardstock: SU So Saffron, Old Olive, Whisper White, Rose Red
Stamps: Great Impressions, stars and swirls; Inkadinkado, sentiment
Ink: Versamark, SU Basic Black
Other: Pop Dots, SU Snail

The circle design card was stamped 3 times in 3 different colors of ink. Parts of the design were cut out and mounted together using pop dots. The circle in the middle was punched out and I attached a silver brad to the middle. It was adhered to the middle of the design with a pop dot.

Cardstock: SU So Saffron, Whisper White, Rose Red
Stamps: Inkadinkado
Ink: SU Old Olive, Rose Red and So Saffron
Other: Silver brad, office supply area @ Walmart; Pop Dots, SU Snail
Wishing YOU Inspiration,
Lori

Challenge #10 Card

Hello everyone! I hope you are enjoying your weekend. It's pretty muggy outside, so I will be a cool cucumber inside. Ü

I decided to make a super simple card for the #10 challenge at Kristina Werner's blog.

To the right you can see the inspiration she chose for this week . The colors are: Old Olive, Bashful Blue, Whisper White, So Saffron and Not Quite Navy.

I made waves with the navy color and for the clouds I used a flower from the Die Cut Blooms kit. The squares were punched out with a paper punch and I added the letters from American Crafts Thickers. I wrote the word "have" above the letter F with just a black ink pen because my Gelly Roll pen would not work no matter how much I scribbled with it ! Ü --Any ideas how I could get it to work?

Azalea Path and Arboretum & My Card

Today we visited the new arboretum near here. It was simply beautiful. Winding paths took us to see two small lakes, a waterfall, numerous wood carvings made from trees that were downed by a tornado, beautiful rose bushes, clematis, lots of different trees, small wildlife and of course lots of beautiful blooming azaleas.

I am sharing some of the pictures I took while we strolled through this lovely nature park.

After we arrived home, I decided to make cupcakes. I used a yellow cake mix, added chocolate chips and iced them with whipped chocolate icing. Unfortunately, the chocolate chips sunk to the bottom of the cupcakes, but they still taste good.

Also I will show you the card I made for my first Inspiration Idea--RED, WHITE and BLUE.

Enjoy your Memorial Day!

Wishing you Inspiration,

Lori

Inspiration Idea #1

For my some of the challenges, I may chose not to put limits on the choices. I will choose a picture that catches my eye and present it to you. It's your turn to make your own choices of how you want to interperet the picture to create your artwork. For example, if you see a shape say, on a wall in the picture and you want to make a card with just those shapes, GO FOR IT! If you like the color combinations in the picture, feel free to use those colors.

Other challenges I may have stipulations on. I may choose the embellishments you can or cannot use, colors you are to use or maybe which kind of fold to use on your card.

Now, on to my Inspiration Idea #1 !!

For my first Inspiration Idea, I want you to make a card using the colors RED, WHITE and BLUE in honor of Memorial Day here in America. Feel free to use any designs, style, shades of these three colors, etc. that inspire YOU to grab your supplies and create your unique work of art!

Please show your artwork by adding the webpage link in the comments in this post . A photo of your card can be on a blog or in an online gallery.

Hi There

Here is a circle card I made using my Coluzzle circle cutter. The scalloped green galore circle is made by cutting a circle and then by using the corner rounder (with the guide removed). I went around the circle, cutting each scallop. I used the SU marker to dot around the edge of the card and on each scallop. The ribbon is knotted. The picture only shows one tail.....there are two!

The picture makes the inner circles look uncentered. They're not. Ü

Ingredients:

Paper: SU green galore, pixie pink and bashful blue.

Ribbon: SU chocolate

Rub Ons: American Crafts mini marks-brown

Ink: SU Stampin Write marker in close to cocoa

I will be deciding on a challenge soon.......STAY TUNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wishing you Inspiration,

Lori

Graduation Card

My mom "commissioned" me to make some graduation cards for her. Here is my first one, made for a girl grad. The school colors are black and gold.

After I took this pic I put a little gemstone on the tassel to glam it up a tiny bit.

I had never worked with black before. It's HARD to work with, but the result looks OK I think.

Stamp: Inkadinkado; Ribbon: May Arts; Paper: Stampin' UP Summer Sun, Walmart Black, pattern, unknown; Other: Paper Studio gemstones

Mom's Day Card

Today I worked on Mom's Day cards.

I used:

SU! Certainly Celery cardstock, petite posies paper by Karen Neuburger, SU! Rose grosgrain ribbon, SU! Dazzling Diamonds glitter, SU! Polka Dot background stamp, MM big brad and fake dew drops I found in the floral department at Michael's.

Now I need to make a Birthday card for my Grandma, she's turning 97 on Mother's Day !

Wishing you Inspiration,

Lori

Citrus Colors

Today I received my Tart & Tangy and Polka Dot background stamps and I wanted to use them right away! After looking at SCS's gallery pics of the Tart & Tangy set, I decided to use the orange shape to stamp lemons, limes and oranges to use on a card. (I even saw one stamped in pink to represent pink grapefruit....COOL, huh?!?! I chose pumpkin pie, green galore and yoyo yellow as my colors. I made two versions of the same idea to see which one I liked better. Which one do you vote for??

I thought I could use them for a get well card, to remind the sick person to take their vitamin C......or to give to my friend (who is on Weight Watchers with me) to remind her to eat her fruits. I could also use these cards as a summertime "thinking of you" card.

Really, this set is very versatile and is sure to become a classic stamp set in my collection.

Basketweave

Hi all ! Today's card was inspired by Kristina Werner's Make a Card Monday for today. She has a tutorial on how she made it on her website under the card.

http://kwernerdesign.com/

She used ribbon to weave her embellishment. It was such a cool idea, so I thought I'd try too !
I thought it turned out pretty cute. It was hard to weave all those ribbons and get them onto the square card though!
Enjoy!

Puppy Love

Today I was in my "studio"....I quoted the word 'studio' because it really doesn't look much like one--it's a TOTAL disaster area. I am in the process of cleaning it up and fixing it up-taking all my artsy bits and pieces out, painting the walls, putting in used cabinets (given to us by DH's mom), reorganizing everything into it's logical area, and finally calling it my "studio". I have realized this might take awhile, but I know it will be well worth the effort.

Anyway, as I was saying, I was in my studio and since I have puppy on the brain, I made a "Thanks a bunch" card using a cute Art Gone Wild Puppy Basket stamp I got last weekend. The sentiment is from Penny Black. I think it turned out quite cute! Enjoy!

The Big D

My hubby is a big Dallas Cowboys fan. Always has been, always will be. Period. He has a number of caps he wears all year long. He recently got this hat and it inspired me to make a card for him. It's a simple design, but I think I like the way it turned out. He liked it too. Ü
